Travel Themed Nursery

Why We Chose a Travel Theme||

I’ve always relished traveling to new places so when my boyfriend (now husband) asked me to make a 12 hour trip from Georgia to Texas to meet his family when we had only been dating a few months, I jumped at the chance for this experience with him. I knew that if our new relationship could survive being stuck in a car with each other, before smart phones and traveling internet capabilities, we could probably withstand just about anything! We laughed a lot, probably cried a little and I even read The DaVinci Code out loud to him as we drove the long and very flat road to Texas.  This has continued over the course of our 10+ years together and we still very much enjoy traveling together. Even though there are so many places we still long to see we are so excited to add our little River to the mix. I have never fully understood the notion of “traveling before you have children.” While I see how it may be a bigger challenge getting from point A to point B I will always jump at the chance to visit somewhere new and have him experience the world as much as humanly possible. In my eyes this will only help him develop in to a more tolerant, well-rounded young man.

Luke (my hubs) started a career with RaceTrac Petroleum that has significantly blessed us with being able to travel. Even though he is constantly in and out of airports every week this has allowed us to reap the rewards of airline points and rental car perks. So when trying to decide on a theme for River’s nursery all we could focus on was having a Dad that traveled every week and constantly in the air so a travel/airplane theme just seemed to fit perfectly.

I had my eye on this mint, navy and grey bedding from Caden Lane that I had stumbled upon on Pinterest before I knew the gender of the baby. What made me want to use these colors I am not really sure I just really liked the bedding.  Once I found out we were having a boy I knew for sure it would be perfect for a little guy!

Now that I had the colors nailed down I just started building around the bedding. I found the awesome airplane prop on and just loved the rustic wood feel to it. Once it came in the mail I instantly fell in love! It makes a great statement piece.

Of course the obligatory monogram is a must. My sweet friend Allison over at, that co-hosted my baby shower, put together these DIY map letters. See the rest of her awesome DIY ideas here.

A Little Star Studded

I liked the idea of giving the room a hint of Americana feel and found all of these cute little pieces featuring stars.

While shopping at Home Goods we found an adorable airplane print chair that I just HAD TO HAVE for his little reading nook. I now use it to also take his monthly photos in. I feel it just pulls the whole room together! Thank you to his Nana and Papa for getting it for us!

I don’t think I could be any happier with the way River’s nursery turned out. The colors, theme and furniture just all came together in a way I could never have imagined. His room is literally the most put together room in my house! IMG_6842

  • I LOVE River’s nursery! And I love the way you chose a theme that is significant and meaningful to your family. Beautiful!

    • Thank you so much Kelly! It’s my favorite part of the house!

  • This design is steller! You certainly know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Great job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
