Hilton Hotels: Southern California

Any chance we get, my husband and I will jump at a chance to travel over a long weekend. While we love traveling with our son, we will take full advantage of “adult-only’ quick trips to visit friends, see new cities or experience a new adventure. It also gives the grandparents a chance for quality time with the munchkin!

We recently had the opportunity to head out to San Diego, California to visit a college friend and we planned to hit Dana Point to meet up with fellow CMB blogger Aimee as well…2 birds, 1 stone?! We had actually never been to the Southern California area so we were excited to get to experience it with friends who actually lived there and could show us all the cool things the locals like to do. So, we mapped out the areas they suggested and went immediately to our Hilton Honors app to start booking at our favorite hotels!

While this trip was more focused on visiting our friends and enjoying the sunny, (no humidity) Southern California weather, I just had to share the snippets of these Hilton properties with you in case you are planning a trip to the San Diego/Orange County areas!

Hilton: San Diego Airport/Harbor Island

After a long first day of traveling, we wanted something convenient to the airport and to the location of our friend who lives on Ocean Beach, right outside of San Diego. After a little research, we immediately fell in love with the Hilton property on Harbor Island.  So convenient, only 5 minutes from the airport, close to downtown San Diego and walking distance to beaches and restaurants. It is situated in between the perfect spot overlooking the harbor on one side and the Bay on the other. We chose a Bay view room and it did not disappoint.  It was a large, spacious room with a king bed, sitting area and adorable balcony overlooking the bay (similar to the room pictured below).

We had a complimentary breakfast that was located in a restaurant with beautiful views of the Harbor packed with gorgeous boats, our room was updated and cozy and offered complimentary wifi among other amenities. This was the perfect spot to introduce us to the lovely San Diego, unwind and refresh for the next few days on-the-go!

I highly recommend if you are looking for a scenic, relaxing stay and enjoy a harbor view!

 Doubletree- Dana Point, California

On day 2 we headed up the coast to see Aimee in Dana Point, CA. I was immediately smitten with this little gem of a hotel right across the street from Doheny Beach and located conveniently between Los Angeles and San Diego. We spent more time visiting with friends this particular day and seeing the area, so we didn’t get to spend as much time as I would have liked at the hotel but it’s on “The List” to definitely make it back to stay longer than a quick 24 hours!

This Doubletree was bright, fun and the perfect “home away from home.”  To me, it was the epitome of the laid back “SoCal” feel with charming accents, friendly staff and a really cool rooftop bar to let your worries drift away!

Hilton: Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego

On our last leg of the trip we head back to San Diego and stay right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter! The Hilton Gaslamp Quarter was so unique and had this incredible retro vibe that I just couldn’t get enough of! We have Diamond Status with Hilton (thanks to my husband’s frequent travels for work) and we were upgraded to a suite overlooking 5th Avenue and the bustling Gaslamp Quarter.

Walking to our room that was located off from the main building we encountered their outdoor terrace that was perfect for relaxing and having a cool beverage before hitting the town and micro-brewery hopping for my birthday! I am sucker for a high-gravity IPA and San Diego did not disappoint.

This was the perfect end to our trip and I just loved that we chose this hotel to say farewell at the end. We “chilled” like Californians, “people watched” the youngsters dancing down the street, took a long relaxing bath in the whirlpool tub after my night out for my birthday, and had the perfect night’s rest before jet-setting back to the East Coast!

I can’t say enough about how well we were treated by all of these Hilton properties.  If you like to travel and are thinking of joining a rewards program, you should consider researching Hilton Honors. We have been thrilled with the Hilton Honors and the perks we receive by being loyal customers.

We are not receiving compensation for this post and all opinions are my own.
